Zheng–Yan’s Background
My name is Zheng–Yan, Lin. I was born and grew up in I-Lan. There are six members in my family, including my father, mother, two older sisters and a younger brother. When I was the student studied in senior high school. I needed to teach my younger brother English. From the teaching process, I found my interesting in teaching English. I felt full of accomplished when my younger brother’s academic grade became progress. Then, I decided to study English and teach more students. This was the key to point ignite my passion in teaching English. In my first and second years of college, I studied in Chung Hua University. Then, I transfer to Providence University to study my third grade. From the studying process, I grew up and my English ability gain ground.
The courses I studied in university
I studied the two courses about English teaching. The first course was Second Language Acquisition which was a class full of challenge. I learned the current research in second language acquisition and I knew the prominent research trends in the study of the language learner, the process of acquisition, and the interaction of the learner, language, and context. We have a variety of activities such as group discussion of the assigned readings, individual and group reports and presentations, and class lectures on related issues. These theories in the text book would help me to understand learners’ affective, motivation and learning styles. Then, the second course was English Teaching Methodology. We needed to do teaching models in front of stage. I thought that was the good chances to practice and train our teaching ability. From these models, We could experience different teaching methods. In this course, the components of a successful teaching are reviewed and discussed to bring my attention to the nature of language teaching. In the end, I felt impression for the course of Intermediate Esl:1. In this class, I had more opportunity to practice and master my writing skills. I understood the basic elements of longer essays and additional practice in the rhetorical devices used in English academic writing. Students also reviewed relevant grammatical structures and sentence patterns. In these courses, I got many harvests.
Teaching experiences and background
When I studied in Providence University on third grade, I chose the group of English teaching. I knew that was my interest. Because of my course, English Teaching Methodology, I had chance to teach English for children in Taichung County Wunan Elementary School. We made up the team to prepare teaching materials. We wrote teaching plans and made teaching aids for children. From this teaching experience, I learned how to manufacture attractive teaching aids, many good ways to enhance students’ interesting in English, and helped them to solve problems in learning process. Next, I had the course of Second Language Acquisition. Therefore, I got another chance in teaching English for blind children who studied in Huei-Ming School. We use Msn and Skype to teach them English. At first, we didn’t find the good way to teach them. However, we gradually knew how to assist them in solving English questions. After more understanding them, we found they were friendly and willing to spend much time in learning. Their attitude inspired me and steadied my heart in teaching. Finally, I had a part-time job in the cram school. I taught English for the students who studied in junior high school. I felt satisfied because I could see their progress day by day. I thought these treasure experiences would become my part of life.
